Working for the Alpha Synopsis
Serissa Carter thought she was going to work for the handsome CEO of Crescent, Inc., Donovan Rush, but what she got was a whole lot more. Not only is Donovan a powerful Alpha, he’s also her fated mate. With danger lurking around every corner, will she accept that werewolves are real and take her destined place in the pack, or will she try to return to an ordinary life?
“Serrissa,” his voice was as warm and smooth as honey. Goosebumps rose along my arms and I closed my eyes almost as though I could feel his fingers. No, I couldn’t let myself be cajoled so easily! “I told you to call my personal num-”
“I don’t know what game you’re playing at, Mr. Rush,” I seethed, trying to let my temper take over so I didn’t fall for this impossible man, “but there is absolutely no reason you should ever have an opinion about what my underwear looks like.”
I wanted to slap myself. It wasn’t what I meant to say, but it’s what blurted out. Oh well, the point was still true. But the silence on the other end of the phone wasn’t helping me stop talking.
“This woman is impossible!” I added. Even though I really liked Ella and her heart was in the right place, I just couldn’t seem to find the right words to explain the situation to her. Not without admitting I was flat broke, an admission that my ego really didn’t want to have to say out loud. “Nothing I say can sway her and she keeps packing more and more things for me. Can you please tell her that I do not need a $50 thong?” Crap, there I go again!
“Well, of course!” Donovan agreed immediately. I felt some of the tension drain from my shoulders, feeling like at least he understood my dilemma. “If you prefer a more expensive one, go with whatever feels best!”
Wait, what? Did he just? I closed my eyes, trying to find a tiny amount of calm so I could try to explain why it was excessive and unnecessary. “Mr. Rush-”
“Donovan,” he interrupted. “I told you, call me Donovan.”
I bit my lip to stop from suggesting something else I could call him. I was still debating taking the job and it wouldn’t be a good start to call my new boss a egocentric braggart completely out of touch with the world. I slowly counted to 10, reminding myself that I was an adult, and who was I really kidding? I’d be a fool not to accept the job. I just needed to find a way to make it work.
