Betrothed To The Brotherhood Synopsis
Iris Parker has spent her entire life fantasizing about ways to escape her domineering mother. A first-generation Chinese American woman, Iris has never lived up to the standards or expectations of her mother. Every action Iris has ever made has managed to anger her mom and she gave up trying to impress her ages ago.
As a receptionist working for a Chinese-owned company in Manhattan, Iris had decided the best way to work her way up from working in the lobby to one of the office spaces, was embarking on a journey of learning Mandarin through an online course. For two years, every week she has worked diligently to learn the language with an older college professor, Jay. In spending this time with him, she has developed a crush which leaves her fantasizing about the older man and all the other things he could teach her.
Jay Zhao, leader of the Obsidian Brotherhood, a Chinese mafia with a stronghold in various countries over the world, has been searching for twenty-five years to exact the revenge against Mei Parker and her husband. Jay had once been betrothed to Mei, but she’d been terrified of him and the rumours surrounding him, specifically that he was a beast in man form. She had run away the morning of their wedding with her lover to America. Now he was going to repay her treachery by taking their daughter as his bride.
When Iris finds out the man, she’s been fantasizing about had been playing her all along in a sick and twisted game of revenge, her desire to escape her mother is transferred to the man who wants to claim her as a wife. The problem is, each time she runs away, he finds her much too easily. It’s almost as if he were able to scent her out like a wild animal chasing its prey.
When Jay reveals his secret and tells Iris the truth of who, and what, he is, the woman’s plans of escape become more elaborate and dangerous. Can Jay save his bride from the traps of his enemies, and more importantly can he convince her he’s not the monster in her fairy tale but rather her knight in golden armour?
A tale of revenge, love and a smidge of fantasy will be in the cards for Iris and if she’s lucky, she’ll get her happily ever after too.
